This study examined and suggested the design and made the costume by applying the formative beauty of traditional Korean clothing to a modern formal suit.
The beauty of costume was also summarized and presented as the formative beauty observed from the external appearance of Jeokui (ceremonial robe embroidered with peacock patterns), Noui, Jangsam (ceremonial robe of royal ladies), Yeomui, Hwalot (ceremonial robe for princesses), Wonsam (court dress for women) and Dangui (upper garment for women, for ceremonial occasions) by examining the origins, shapes, colors and patterns of the clothes above on the basis of the investigation on conceptual historical books about traditional costume for marriage. And the costume was made as the empirical study in accordance with the beauty of costume observed above.
This study began from the worries that the interest and understanding on the traditional Korean costume gradually followed the westernization trends and practical needs for convenience in reality, which I felt as making traditional Korean costume, mainly for marriage, as the designer for about 20 years.
As the traditional costume that most of Korean feel brotherhood as wearing, the modern formal suit design was suggested and made as explained below:
1. Design was configured and utilized on the basis of the shape
of traditional costum
2. The traditional colors, blue, red, white, black and yellow for
the wedding costume, were adop
3. Materials suitable for expressing the formal suit were used.
4. Traditional patterns delivered their meaning and were utilized in various ways.
