Picrasma quassioides Benn. blossoms in June, olive color, and it is a dioecism. The component of PQB, quassin, is a bittering agent and it stimulates appetite as a stomachics. The water extract of the component of PQB had highest anti-oxidative effect and the methanol extract and 70% ethanol extract followed. The methanol extract had highest inhibitory activity of α-Glucosidase and the water extract followed.
To find out the anti-cancer effect of the component of PQB for oral cavity carcinoma I checked the cell survival rate using in the human oral carcinoma cells(KB cell). When I checked the KB cell survival rate using hot-water extract and methanol extract, there was no differences in hot-water extract but meaningful differences in low-concentration(10, 20, 30, 40, 50μg/ml) of methanol extract by concentration-dependent manner. In addition, when I analyzed protein bands which I got in protein isolation by electrophoresis, it didn't affect the expression of β-actin while it inhibited the production of COX-2 by concentration-dependent manner.
For these results, it could be strongly suggested that the methanol extract of PQB is very effective for prevention and treatment of the oral cavity carcinoma
