The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of Enhanced Milieu Teaching(EMT) on spontaneous requesting of children with intellectual disabilities.
A multiple baseline design across subjects was used to assess the frequency of spontaneous requesting, generalized use of spontaneous requesting and the maintenance of the effects of the intervention. The participants of this study were three children with intellectual disabilities and the intervention was implemented during the free choice time at a special school.
The results of this study were as follows;
First, frequency of spontaneous requesting of children with intellectual disabilities was increased through EMT.
Second, the effects of EMT on spontaneous requesting were generalized to other person.
Third, the effects of EMT on spontaneous requesting were maintained after two weeks of the intervention.
The results of this study show that EMT has positive effects on spontaneous requesting of children with intellectual disabilities.
