The study was designed to find out that physical self-concept and basic psychological needs among the students in middle school affect their vitality in the class of the sports club. The sample consists of 300 mixed middle school students in Busan. The researcher visited the schools and fully explained the questionnaire which was filled out by students after their consent of the completed questionnaires, 276 cases except 24 uncompleted cases were selected as a final subject of the research analysis. Statistics package, SPSS V21.0 was used for data processing and Crobach's α coefficient for testifying the credibility of test tools. The researchful factor analysis was performed in order to find out the definition validity.
MANOVA test was used to testify the difference in each factor. Multi-variables regression analysis was performed in order to find out the correlations of physical self-concept, basic psychological needs, vitality and to show the influence on how physical self-concept, basic psychological needs affect vitality. A significance level of p〈.05 was used in all statistical test.
The results of this Study are as follows:
1) Physical Self-concept
(1) It was shown that girls have more physical self-concept than boys have regarding to sports competence satisfaction, body fat, health, physical activity, endurance, and physical strength, but the boys have more physical self-concept than in the factors of appearance, self-esteem, and flexibility.
(2) It was shown that the second grade students have more physical self-concept than the third grade students have in regarding to body fat, health, physical activity, self-esteem, flexibility, endurance, physical strength, but the third grade students have more physical self-concept than the second grade students in the factors of sports competence satisfaction, and appearance.
2) Basic Psychological Needs
(1) Women showed higher basic psychological needs than men in factors such as autonomy, and relatedness, but men showed higher basic psychological needs than women in the competence factor.
(2) The second grade students showed basic psychological needs than the third grade students in the aspects such as autonomy, and relatedness, but the third grade students showed the basic psychological needs than the second grade students in the competence aspect.
3) Vitality
(1) In terms of gender, men have more vitality than women.
(2) In terms of grade, the second grade students have more vitality than the third garde students.
4) Correlations of Physical Self-concept, Basis Psychological Needs and Vitality
(1) It was shown that the sports competence satisfaction among the physical self-concept factors affect the vitality.
(2) It was shown that the vitality affects competence, sports competence satisfaction, appearance, and relatedness.
(3) It was shown that the vitality influences on the competence factor among the basic psychological needs.
According this survey, in general factors, there are differences in grade, and gender. However, This study shows that the competence, sports competence satisfaction are the most influential factors on the vitality in the class of the sports club since physical self-concept, basic psychological needs and vitality correlate with one another. Therefore, the sports club teacher should make effort to improve each sports skills, and talent of the students in their class of sports club.
