In this study, the analysis on solid fuel suitability and potential energy recovery for J city was implemented. Results of a sample survey for recycle center of bulky waste in the landfill has shown that sofa, dresser/ desk, bed/ mat, chairs, electronics, etc. The waste timber has MDF- timbers-poly wood and the waste plastic / waste textile have waste textile-waste plastic-waste sponge by order of the ratio from highest to lowest.
Results of the chemical analysis for waste woods showed that there are about 9% moisture, 89% volatile content and 2% ash content. In the case of waste plastic are contained less than 1% water and 92% volatile content. The lower heating value by elemental analysis has shown the ranges of 3,700~4,000 kcal/㎏ and 4,100~6,500 kcal/㎏ respectively. Municipal solid fuel exceeded more than 3,500 kcal/㎏.
The environmental assessment of a bulky waste-energy have evaluated through legal standard. At result of timber is evaluated to 1st class, the MDF is 2nd class and the poly-wood is 3rd class (depending on whether halogen is contained or not), but the result of the implemented test in the study has shown that it is possible for the solid fuel. As it showed a lower value than the reference value of chlorine.
On the other hand, chlorine concentration of waste plastics was very non-uniform level. Although the chlorine concentration of mixed waste plastics was lower than the reference, it is estimated that the commited service through specialized company is effective, when the detected concentration is high.
Analysed result from the long term perspective, it is demonstrative that the recycling values is sufficient. Whenever waste wood produced solid fuel, total benefits generates 4.72 hundred million won annually (1.92 hundred million won in sales profit, 2.76 hundred million won in incineration replacement).
The analysed result on the environmental benefit shows that the solid fuel from waste wood can replace 3,872 tons of coal and 2,710 tons of oil annually. In case of the CO₂ which is the greenhouse gas, it is expected to get the reduction of 10,223 tons annually according to substituted effect for the fossil fuel(coal).
Results for this study, it is developed basic model technology for solid fuel and policy of bulky waste. Furthermore, development of model for bulky waste recycling and the production, application of solid fuel by using a bulky waste, it can be used as a variety of methodology for approaches.
