The objective of this study is to multilaterally research the perception of music textbook and teacher's manuals of music teachers in special school for the mentally retarded in accordance with background variables such as sex, teaching experience, license possessed, training experience related to music education, class of school, number of students in each class, and weekly music lesson hours, and also to examine the relation between music textbook and teacher's manuals for music.
The research questions of this study are like below.
First, the perception of music textbook of music teachers in special school for the mentally retarded is analyzed in accordance with each background variable.
Second, the perception of teacher's manuals for music teachers in special school for the mentally retarded is analyzed in accordance with each background variable.
Third, the relation between the perception of music textbook and teachers' manuals for music teachers in special school for the mentally retarded is understood.
In order to analyze the perception of music textbook and teacher's manuals for music teachers in special school for the mentally retarded, the survey was conducted targeting 107 secondary music teachers in special schools for the mentally retarded in Gangwon-do, Chungcheong-do, Jeolla-do, Gyeongsang-do, and Busan-si, by using total two measuring tools. Conducting the independent sample t-test, ANOVA, and Scheffe post-test for the perception of music textbook and teacher's manuals for music teachers in special school for the mentally retarded in accordance with each background variable, the Pearson correlation coefficient was calculated to understand the relation between the perception of music textbook and teacher's manuals for music teachers in special school for the mentally retarded.
The results of this study could be summarized like below.
First, regarding the perception of music textbook of music teachers in special school for the mentally retarded, there were no differences in teaching experience, number of students in charge, and weekly lesson hours. However, the perception of music textbook was high with male teachers, teachers with regular music teacher's license for special/general school, teachers with training experience, and teachers in charge of middle school.
Second, regarding the perception of teacher's manuals for music teachers in special school for the mentally retarded, there were no differences in sex, teaching experience, license possessed, class of school in charge, number of students in charge, and weekly lesson hours. However, the perception of teacher's manuals for music was high with teachers with training experience.
Third, when the perception of music textbook of music teachers in special school for the mentally retarded was high, the perception of teacher's manuals for music was also high.
