The purpose of this research is to improve the ability of self-expression to adopt modern society through speech education. Modern society is the era of self-expression. The number of people who sharing content on social media has increased as development of internet. Ironically, there is a phenomenon of not being able to express one's intention via face to face communication. The ability of self-expression may develop through the improvement of competence in communication, interperonal relatins and self questioning ability which has mentioned on 2015 Revised Curriculum.
First of all, the concept of speech, categories, credibility, persuasion strategies, attitudes and so on were examined by comparison of 2009 Revised Curriculum and 2015 Revised Curriculum. This shows that speech is an intentional and goal-oriented way of communicating to na audience in a formal situation. Moreover, the research found that the 2009 Revised Curriculum focuses on advertising and the 2015 Revised Curriculum focuses on the persuasive speech. Subsequently, the research analyzed credibility and elements of persuasive strategy which are the core value of a speech. The credibility of speech is the power of the speaker judged by audience which is valued in both curricular. The rational and emotional persuasion strategies were presented in the 2009 revised curriculum as the persuasion strategy, the difference was that the 2015 revised curriculum also presented the personal persuasion strategy. Lastly, the research investigated the importance and criterion of critical listening attitude to judge the speech. The research stated that the speech should be accepted after the proper judgement of validity, reliability, and fairness of the opponent's claims.
Secondly, the research analyzed textbook based on each curriculum. Based on persuasive speaking-related achievement standards, the research examined 10 textbooks reflected by 2009 revised curriculum and 8 textbooks reflected by 2015 revised curriculum. The result shows that the intention of each curriculum appears in the textbook by comparing the name of unit, the body of text, and learning activities of each textbook.
In a conclusion, the research found that the speech discourse was not being properly educated at the school site. In order to solve the problem, the speech learning stage was classified into four stages, so that student may learn speech at the middle school level. The research suggested the steps of understanding-applying-using based on based learning where attitude education is the main. As a way to materialize, the research proposed 'DIE(Dream-In-Education) which is a workshop-type teaching method that the learner is the center of the class.
