In the past five years, the use of economic news has also increased noticeably as investment in stocks, real estate, and cryptocurrencies has become popular in the face of global liquidity expansion. However, so far, there has been insufficient research on recipients on what motivations economic news users use the media and how satisfied they are with the use. Moreover, there have been no studies that investigated users' willingness to use paid services focusing on the use of economic news. This study explored the factors affecting users' satisfaction with use, participation behavior, and willingness to use paid for all economic news, including offline and online media. To this end, 311 adult men and women with experience in using economic news were surveyed.
As a result of this study, the main factors affecting the user satisfaction of economic news users were leisure/pleasure and daily life help among the motivation for use. The main factor influencing the involvement behavior of economic news users was the motivation to use daily life help. Factors affecting the willingness of economic news users to use paid, which are the core research topics of this study, were interpersonal motivation and participation behavior. It was found that the higher the frequency of using economic news through offline media, the more negatively the user's willingness to use paid. The results of this study provide practical implications for news producers who are considering ways to secure online paid customers. Academically, it can be used as basic data in the study of media audiences in the economic field.
