The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of a mother's professional help-seeking attitude on young children's problem behaviors in the relationship between child parents' parenting stress and young children's problem behavior. In this study, there is a need to reduce the parenting stress of having a negative effect on young children's problem behavior and to find a plan for promoting a mother's professional help-seeking attitude. To achieve the objective and necessity in this study, the research questions were established on the basis of a previous research.
First, what about a causal relationship among child parents' parenting stress, a mother's professional help-seeking attitude, and young children's problem behavior?
Second, what about the mediating effects of a mother's professional help-seeking attitude in the relationship between child parents' parenting stress and young children's problem behavior?
To verify these research problems, a questionnaire survey was conducted as the process of the preliminary inquiry and the main investigation targeting parents with children aged 3 to 5 in full who are attending a private kindergarten and a child care center where are located in B city. Parenting Stress Index(PSI), Scale of Problem Behaviors for Young Children(TBC), Attitudes toward seeking professional help Scale(ATSPH) were used. The collected data in this study were parsed by using jamovi 2.0.0 version. First, a general tendency in a child father's parenting stress, a mother's parenting stress, a mother's professional help-seeking attitude, and young children's problem behavior was examined through the mean and the standard deviation. Subsequently, the relationship among a child father's parenting stress, a mother's parenting stress, a mother's professional help-seeking attitude, and young children's problem behavior was carried out Pearson's product moment correlation analysis. Finally, to inspect the mediation effects of a mother's professional help-seeking attitude in the relationship among a child father's parenting stress, a mother's parenting stress, and young children's problem behavior, the analysis was made by applying jamovi Advanced Mediation Models(jAMM) 1.0.4 version. jAMM proved a significance of an indirect effect by using bootstrap.
The research conclusions in this study are as follows.
First, it was indicated that the higher a mother's professional help-seeking attitude, the lower the children's problem behavior and that the higher the parents' parenting stress, the higher the young children's problem behavior as well.
Second, as a result of confirming the mediating effects of a mother's professional help-seeking attitude, a partial mediation effect was shown in the relationship between a father's parenting stress and young children's problem behavior. A partial mediation effect appeared in the relationship between a mother's parenting stress and young children's problem behavior.
This study led to having clarified the mediating effects that a mother's professional help-seeking attitude has on young children's problem behaviors in the relationship between child parents' parenting stress and young children's problem behavior. There is a significance with regard to being used as basic data in order to pursue a plan available for diminishing the parenting stress of affecting young children's problem behavior and for enhancing a mother's professional help-seeking attitude.
