The letter which is converted from a language for primary human communication to the formative symbol is meaningful for clearing a restriction in time and space of a language. It developed from the pictograph to the present letter by passing through a symbolization, abstraction, and simplification. Because of a printing type that can print on a massive scale, it can be developed into various shapes of a character and formative forms of expression. But the study of the formative character in Korean typography cannot be compared with other language studies and its understanding commercial value is lower than other languages. In this study, we tried to find out discrepancy of customer’s preference in variable font styles that used Lee-cheolsu font which has the calligraphy attribute and Yoon-godic font which has opposite Attribute. We disjointed universality in type with 3 levels and ascertained the relation between discrepancy of customer’s preference following the extent of disjointing universality in type and the customer’s intention, a formative function. The finding shows that a formative function has affect on the customer’s intentionin the case of without disjointing and a reorganization of the letter has affect with disjointing. It shows the disjointed picture have more favor than the one without disjointing, and the picture with Lee-cheolsu font shows more customer’s intention than the one with Yoon-godic font.
