I analyzed the oral life-stories of three women in order to historicize Korean women's experiences related to ‘mothering’ since the industrialization. Women's life-stories reflects the social changes in the 1960~70s, when the regional gap got widen due to the rush-to modernization and urbanization, and when education played a crucial role as a resource for upward social mobility. They also show us that the Korean mothers should be considered as the positive actors who have been aware of the social changes and their own opportunities and limitations in that changes. Through the life-stories, we can understand that the roles of Korean mothers have not been just centered on caring for their childs but also responsibility for managing extended family relationships and for supporting financial matters, which has been combined in various ways. 'Mothering experiences' of Korean women since the industrialization have been negotiated in the context of the rapid social changes and reorganization of the public/private.
