The purpose of this study is to analyze the cultural contents of Korean middle school English textbooks. The results of the study show that the cultural contents of English textbooks in Korea have been changed in a positive way but still need to be improved. The results of this research are as follows: First, 'spiritual' culture occupied 67% of the topics in the English textbooks. Second, when the textbooks were analyzed in terms of nationality, 'neutral' culture showed the highest distribution in Korea. Especially, the distribution rates of ‘neutral’ culture and ‘British and American’ cultures were 80% and 3% respectively in the textbooks. This is attributed to the fact that contents of 'British and American' cultures were not enough to learn English adequately. Third, English textbooks in Korea have shown various cultures of other countries, which attract the interests of students. The cultural information of Korean English textbooks is presented in the effective ways. It is suggested that English textbooks should play an essential role in providing students with various cultural information.
