For the last decade, the number of young children in multi-cultural family in fishery & agriculture area has increased rapidly in Korea. This study aimed to investigate their atypical development of language and social-emotion. Subjects of 147 children aged 3 to 6 in multi-cultural family in Chung-chung and Jul-la provinces and the compared group of 143 children aged 3 to 6 in normal family in the same location were selected. The results of this study are as follows: First, young children in multi-cultural family had significantly lower language development than those in normal family. Next, young children in multi-cultural family had significantly lower self-esteem, self-control, and coping skills than those in normal family, while young children in multi-cultural family had higher aggression than those in normal family, Last, young children in multi-cultural family in relatively low level of language development showed significantly lower self-esteem, self-control, and coping skills than those in multi-cultural family in relatively high level of language development, while young children in multi-cultural family in relatively low level of language development showed higher aggression than those in multi-cultural family in relatively high level of language development. Therefore, the result confirmed the atypical development of language and social-emotion of multi-cultural family children in fishery & agricultural area and furthermore it suggested the effects of language delay on social-emotional development delay.
