This novel's is the life of the poor at Seoul in the 1960’s is reflected
in the characters including ‘the old man from Seorin-dong’, a native
Seoulite, ‘the old man from Geumho-dong’ a small landowner who came
down to the south for freedom, the law student who is a jobless person,
the swindler ‘Nam Dong-Pyo’, the monthly installment of book
salesman ‘Gi Sang-Hyeon’, the prostitutes ‘Gilnyeo’ and ‘Migyeong’. In
the sixties, the modernism was so rampant that the ‘money’ fell low to
become the phantom of massive capital in order to separate the center
from the margins of the society.
