dispersions of family and kinship exploring the life stories of
three Korean women in Japan. Each of these aged women have
played a role as mediator between the family and kinship in
homeland and those in Japan. In their lifetimes, the
impossibility to go freely to their mother country and homeland
can be separate apart from the fact that it has been not easy
for these families/relatives to meet each other. Because the
complicate and multifold International politics from the colonial
period to the Cold War system has affected the relations of
family and kinship with diverse borders. Between the family
and kindred which left home and those which were left home,
the coordination of roles and the connection of exchanges has
been made up reciprocally. It can be said that the patrilineality
that appears in the course of pedigree successions reflects the
values of continuity that play a part in preserving the networks
of dispersed families, even though it has reinforced somewhat
the traditional patriarchy.
