Recently the emergence of rapidly spreading Social media has caused a whole new change in the structure of the existing political discourse. The 2008 United States Presidential Election brought victory to Barack Obama and was the first election to confirm the impact of Social media in terms of electoral strategy. After Obama's election, social media has not only been used in countries around the world as a means of political campaign and electoral strategy but also as a means of communication among the general public even after the election. This study aims to analyze the newly thriving social media and its political influence. Based on the review of previous research on how the internet has made an impact on the political discourse, this study compares the difference between the internet's political influence and social media's political influence. Also, by analyzing the use of social media in Obama's election, this research takes a look at social media as a new trend in political discourse and analyzes the significance and limits of social media.
