여가를 보내는데 드는 시간과 비용을 절약할 수 있는 시설에 대한 수요가 높아지면서 국내에도 복합쇼핑몰이라는 몰 문화가 급속히 확산되고 있다. 이러한 복합쇼핑몰은 쇼핑이라는 기본적인 기능 이외에도 각종 체험적 요소를 제공하고 있으며, 집과 직장에 이어 단 몇 시간만이라도 부담없이 시간을 보낼 수 있는 ‘제3의 공간’으로서 진화하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 소비자들이 몰링 행위를 통해 어떠한 만족을 얻고, 복합 쇼핑몰을 어떻게 인식하고 있는지 이해하고 그 유형을 발견하는데 있다. 몰링에 대한 소비자들의 인식 유형을 분석한 결과, 각기 독특한 특성을 가진 4개의 유형이 나타났다. 제1유형은 ‘내 집 같은 공간’으로 복합 쇼핑몰은 내 집같이 부담없이 보낼 수 있는 ‘제3의 공간’ 으로 인식하고 있다. 제2유형은 ‘문화공간’으로 복합 쇼핑몰에서 쇼핑을 하는 동시에 문화적 체험을 할 수 있는 곳으로 인식하고 있다. 제3유형은 ‘편리한 공간’으로 복합 쇼핑몰이 다양한 것들을 갖추고 있어 한 공간에서 여러 가지 일을 볼 수 있다는 점을 중요시 생각하고 있다. 마지막으로 제4유형은 ‘서핑 공간’으로서 몰링족에게 호기심을 자극하는 신비의 공간인 동시에 몰링을 하는 동안 무엇인가 발견할 기회를 준다는 점에서 대단히 중요한 역할을 하는 공간으로서 인식하고 있다.The growth of multiplex shopping malls has rapidly been spreading in Korea. It’s becoming a famous outing to the public to appreciate their spare time. It serves as a suitable gathering place that allows one to enjoy their spare time and save time in one space. The multiplex shopping malls are taking a liking from the public as a community space that provides the basic function. Along with a various experiential aspects that can offer the public a home, an office space and a space to play. These one stop shopping malls are becoming a comfortable and popular place to the public. Korea has dedicated this type of spatial arena as the “The Third Space” that is constantly evolving for the public. The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding of the Korean public on how they perceive this type of arena space as public grounds. The general publics in Korea gain a certain type of satisfaction through visiting a mall and being a part of a consumer. The Q methodology can be applied to this type of scenario viewing the public as “malling” consumers. After analyzing the “the malling,” four distinct factors can be found. The first factor, “the Sweet Space”e identifies the multiplex shopping mall as a place to spend time with no obligation such as the “Third Space.” The second factor, “the Culture Space” recognizes the cultural experience the consumers can obtain while shopping. The third factor, “the Convenient Space” compartmentalizes the required necessities for the consumers in one space for an easy access within the vicinity. And lastly the fourth factor, “the Surfing Space” delivers an adventurous and mysterious journey for the curious minds. This can be a plus to the “malling” consumers where they can discover and uncover grounds that are new.
