This article explores the political economic basis of Asia-Pacific support for U.S hegemony, under the circumstance that the decline of the West and the rise of the East crisscross in the wake of the global financial crisis. Recent discussions on global power transition focus solely on the change in national capabilities of great powers like the U.S and China. However, international leadership depends on the followership of secondary states. This study analyzes the 1992-2008 voting results of 50 Asia-Pacific countries, using time-series cross-section models. Support for American leadership seems to correspond to the asymmetrical distribution of capabilities, the inflows of foreign investment, and the levels of democracy. It implies that the U.S could sustain its hegemonic status through military buildup, investment facilitation, and democratic promotion in the Asia Pacific.
