The purpose of this paper is to examine characteristics of formation and cultural tourism area of the Historic District of Old Quebec in Canada. Quebec province is located in eastern-central Canada. It is the only Canadian province with a predominantly French-speaking population and the only one whose sole official language is French at the provincial level. Quebec City is the capital of the Canadian province of Quebec, and its name is provided by Kebec, the native indian word meaning “where the river narrows” Most inhabitants live in urban areas near the Saint Lawrence River between Quebec and Montreal city. Quebec was founded by the French explorer Samuel de Champlain in the early 17th century. Old Quebec can be divided into the Upper Town, built on the cliff and the Lower Town. The district has remained the religious and administrative center, with its churches, squares, monuments and famous buildings like the Château Frontenac. Together with the town and its ancient district, it forms cultural ensemble which is one of the best examples of French style colonial city. This historic district was registered on UNESCO World Heritage List based on the Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage in 1985. Old Quebec is an attractive travel destination with historic and cultural tourism resources. Also it is considered as an interesting case area to represent french style canada and to research multiculturalism in this era of globalization.
