Residents' attitude has been viewed as an important research topic in rural tourism and community development. This study discussed residents' perception and support for community development based on the factors found to influence reactions toward it. Using the literature, a residents' support model with hypotheses involving several path was proposed.
Data were collected from rural residents of 6 Comprehensive Rural Village Development Project areas, and the hypothesized paths were tested. The findings revealed that perceived impact of development is affected by the level of community attachment, resource use and community concern. In addition, the level of community attachment, resource use, community concern, perceived benefit and perceived cost of development had influence on residents' support for community development.
Based on these significant findings, the implications and limitations of the study and the future research directions were also discussed.
