The aim of this study is to call writer ChoJonghyeon to children's literary history who had not been called. There is an inextricable connection between his life, Buddhism reform movement and children's song and it was in hiding. The result of this study, trying to lighten and identify the correlations among them, is as follows. First, ChoJonghyeon became a Buddhist monk in 1922. Seonamsa(Seonam-temple), the temple he started his Buddhist monk life, was one of the temples which actively advocated Buddhist reformism actively and branch of Young Buddhism Union. As there are many Buddhist monks, he was also influenced. After he became a Buddhist monk, he was very active in taking part in the Buddhism reform movement and worked as a member of a secret society ‘Mandang’ and a direction committee of the Young Buddhism Union. Especially, he contributed a number of articles to the magazine ‘Bulgyo(Buddhism)’ and was at the center of the movement with Hanyonghun. It was the separation of religion and politics and popularization that the Buddhism reform movement emphasized on. Popular Buddhism orientation was a reflection of will for independence from Japanese colonial rule. It aimed not to separate the religious world and the everyday world but coexist. He wrote children’s songs as a part of it. Secondly, ChoJonghyeon composed 45 children’s songs. His songs mainly were a reflection of people’s tough lives as he participated in the Buddhism reform movement. He insisted agreement poetic turn of mind, innocence of childhood and mercy of Buddha and that’s why he reflected reality through a view of innocence. His songs were not a simple observed picture of the hard life of the people through a view of innocence but facing unavoidable our real lives. His children’s songs were one way of Buddhism reform movement which was trying to be popularized. Only 45 children’s songs of ChoJonghyeon were dealt with this study. A follow up study will be conducted after all of his children’s songs were settled and collected. Being much widely known to the world is expected as he wanted to be in public not to separate the religious world and the everyday world.
