This study investigates how the effectiveness of PPL(Product Placement) can be dissimilar according to the types of advertising brand display in terrestrial broadcasting program. The empirical results demonstrate that the omitted or altered brand name display than fully provided one increases the self-generation effect and produces better performance in awareness of brand name. However, the type of brand display does not affect the consumers’ attitudes or behavior changes. The type of brand display interacts with product and program involvements. When the viewers highly immersed in the TV program view high-involvement product with limited information provided, the highest level of brand awareness is generated. On the other hand, distracted program viewers produce the lowest level of brand awareness when brand name is fully provided on low-involvement product. These results bring up the need for redefining the relationship between PPL(or indirect advertising) and sponsorship and suggest the importance of the connectivity between the program and the viewers in PPL.
