대표적인 문화콘텐츠로서 텔레비전 드라마의 위상과 영향이 과거와 비교할 때 심대하게 확장되고 대중의 관심을 끄는 사회문화적인 환경 속에서, 작가집단은 드라마의 생산과정 속에서 매우 주요한 창작자이자 문화매개자로서의 역할을 수행한다. 이 연구는 분석의 필요성에도 불구하고 그간에 학술적인 관심과 더불어 조명이 상대적으로 매우 미진했던 드라마작가집단에 관한 생산자연구를 시도한다. 이 작업은 심층인터뷰와 기사분석을 조합하면서, 드라마의 생산에 적극적으로 개입해왔고 상당한 지명도를 누리게 된 작가들을 섭외하고, 이들과의 대화와 의견의 교환을 기반으로, 드라마 작가들의 삶, 노동 그리고 직업적인 정체성과 환경의 특징과 함의들을 ‘가까운 거리에서’ 다면적으로 풀어내고 세밀하게 기술하는데 방점을 둔다. 드라마작가집단에 대한 비교적 상세한 사례연구이자, 생산자연구의 가능성을 드라마 영역에서 탐색하는 질적인 분석으로서, 이 글은 텔레비전작가라는 특정한 생산자집단을 대상으로 시도되는 분석적인 작업의 함의와 가능성을 구체적으로 탐문하고자한다.Television drama is one of the most sought after cultural products in the field of television and popular culture. It is also a highly profitable yet unstable cultural commodity. This study explores the occupational identities, work habits, and ethos of television drama writers through an in-depth interviews and the sets of problematics derived from “production studies.” In doing so, this work aims to illuminate the very nature of these writers’ work as well as the particular institutional practices and pressures that surround and shape their work condition and life.
