This survey research from a representative national sample of KBS online panelists (N=2,098) empirically investigated how citizens’ political engagement (political knowledge, efficacy, and conversation) diverged across different patterns of overall news consumption, and whether education-based gaps in political engagement differed across groups with distinct news consumption patterns. Major findings were as follows. First, more educated respondents showed higher levels of political engagement than their less educated counterparts, regardless of sub-dimensions of political engagement. Second, the level of political engagement diverged, depending on overall news consumption patterns: roughly, highest scores in many-platforms/long-time use group followed by many-short, few-long, and few-short groups, in that order. Lastly, the magnitude of political engagement gap between the high and low education groups was statistically significant across all media use groups for political knowledge; only few-long and few-short use groups for political efficacy; only many-short and few-short use groups for political conversation.
