Umbokyeon 飮福宴, the feast in partaking of sacrificial food and drink was one of Orye(五禮 Five Rites) as Garye(嘉禮 felicitous rites), but it could not be performed by itself. It is notable that Umbokyeon was not performed until the preceding ceremony had been carried out first.
This paper looks into the meaning of Umbokyeon, the period of its performance, the process and then clarifies the formal commentaries recording the ritual procedure and music and dance in Umbokyeon. Furthermore, I illustrate the meaning of Umbokrye 飮福禮, the rite of partaking food and drink in ancestor worship. Also, the difference of Umbokrye and Umbokyeon need to be clarified.
It is certain that Umbokyeon followed the custom of performing music and dance in general court feast. However, the meaning of partaking sacrificial food and drink lied in 'God's blessing never stopps 'Being blessed' was considered important, so the procedure of drinking wine which King and his servant sanctified was the core of the ceremony, unlike the general court feast(宴禮). Umbokyeon was not performed any more since the late seventeenth century.
