As marine tourism and participants in marine related leisure activities are expected to grow, building infrastructures on marine sports such as marina or establishing marine leisure associations are still long way to go. Therefore it is highly recommended that government and other related governing bodies to implement harbour facilities such as marina to serve future demand on marine leisure sports. The objective of this study is to suggest a guideline in adopting marina rating system through an exploratory study on current systems and cases in developed countries.
Findings from the study suggest that adopting a rating system need to take into consideration overall forecasting on the demand, number of potential visitors, target number of guests, the circumstantial condition and the importance of marina long before the structural plan of marina. Visitors and guests to a marina facility will be benefited from the recognized quality provided by the marina and select one's favorite facility through reviewing an activity plan for marine leisure and facilities.
