This study figures out ‘dual spatial mismatch of cooperation’ caused by ‘dual power transition’ and recent rapid bilateral FTAs surge in East Asia as aspect of the ‘FTA domino effect’ resulted in it too. Therefore, based on such as new regional characteristics, some implications on East Asian FTA policy in the forthcoming Korea government are as follow. First, it needs to ease diplomatic tension between neighboring countries by means of institutionalizing economic cooperation owing to spatial mismatch of cooperation between economy and security. Second, due to spatial mismatch of cooperation between financial sector and real economy in terms of economy, South Korea should carefully adopt if to join the TPP. Third, in the financial sector, South Korea endeavors to serves as a bridge of People’s Republic of China and Japan while enhancing the synergy between financial cooperation and FTA. Fourth, in the real economy sector, the government may be better off to complete bilateral FTA in sequence based on a consensus for region-wide FTA rather than doing simultaneously. Moreover, for a middle power just like South Korea, multilateralism is likely to be strategically beneficial rather than bilateralism.
