This study performed participant observation of 10 two?year?old toddlers and 2 teachers in order to examine the toddlers’ intention to try communication and peers’ and teachers’ response to the intention. According to the results of this study, two?year?old toddlers attempted communication with the intension of ‘self?asserting’ to their teacher and peers, and with intention of ‘showing interest and sympathizing’ and ‘sharing love and comfort’ with others. To these intentions, peers showed a positive response or rejection depending on their intimacy with the toddler or their strength. On the contrary, teachers showed a receptive response to toddlers’ communication intentions of ‘self?asserting,’ ‘showing interest and sympathizing’ and ‘sharing love and comfort.’ These results give educational implications as follows. First, teachers should respect toddlers’ self?assertion, and help toddlers passive in self?assertion express their emotion in word. Second, in order to recognize toddlers’ intention of showing interest, teachers should be sensitive and help peer toddlers recognize others’ intention of showing interest and sympathizing. Lastly, teachers should be able to read and respond sensitively to toddlers’ demand of love.
