The purpose of this study was investigate the effect of the level of BMI on body image and self-esteem of an high school students. The subjects of this study consisted of 657(male=377, female=280) high school students. The used instruments were the Song(2002) for measuring body image and the Kim et al.(2000) for measuring self-esteem. The data were analyzed by one way ANOVA, correlation analysis and Multiregression analysis as a statistical method. The result of this study was as follows.
First, among the subscales of body imaeg, the difference according to gender is that overall appearance evaluation of a schoolboys was significantly higher than that of a schoolgirls. But, social dependence and height dissatisfaction of a schoolgirls were significantly higher than that of a schoolboys. And there wase significant difference according to the level of BMI among attention to grooming, overall appearance evaluation, health/fitness evaluation, social dependence. Second, there was no significant difference in self-esteem according to gender and the level of BMI, Third, All of the subscales of body image had an effect on self-esteem.
