In all of Hwang Sun-won’s 〈Ilwol〉, dealing with the sense of taboo on ‘a butcher’, Kim Won-il’s 〈Noeul〉, dealing with the ideological transition of ‘a butcher father’ toward the left wing, and Mun Sun-tae’s 〈Piagol〉, dealing with a father as the victims of the leftist ideology, the restoration sense of father as the identical recognition is projected. Hwang Sun-won’s 〈Ilwol〉 deals with the anguish of family members who lost the identical symbol of society due to their ‘butcher’ lineage. For the family members including ‘In-cheol’, this moment makes them to recognize their identity.
Butchers had to live at specific regions, and the status as butcher’s daughter drives ‘In-cheol’’s aunt to commit suicide. These social customs toward butchers connote the unconscious taboo of ordinary people who are main players of power discourse. Kim Won-il’s 〈Noeul〉 describes the violence of father who is a patriarchal butcher, and a bloody history where the father ends up to be an ideological agent who is instigated by the leftist ideology. 〈Noeul〉 reveals that ‘the father’ is a just victim of the power discourse who has collapsed in the abstract ideology through the father’s series of recollections on the road to home, and this enables his son to recognize his homogeneity with his father. Mun Sun-tae’s 〈Piagol〉 deals with the process of ‘father seeking’ of ‘Man-hwa’, a granddaughter of a shaman, who does not know even her father’s face clearly. 〈Piagol〉 traces back the ideological and bloody history of father through a dim memory of childhood, and she recognizes it as her root in the end. This is the moment to recognize the blood in her blood vessel as the coagulation of many historic fathers through many generations.
These all works connote a social taboo sense as a power discourse. There is a negative attitude toward ‘butchers’ because one can’t help reminding one’s guilty whenever one looks butchers, and this leads to the invisibility of butchers. This invisibility of ‘butchers’does not only exclude reminding one’s guilty, but also produce a more intense bloody history.
