In the founding myth of Silla, Aryeong is hailed as the queen of Hyeokkeose(赫居世, founding king of Silla), but is of great importance. She has her own birth myth and with Hyeokkeose had called one of the two sage of Silla. In other founding myth in which dynastic founder was born by his mother, Aryeong is more magnified than Hyeokkeose is. This demonstrates that Aryeong was an important figure in the early stage of the Kingdom's founding. From the fact that each birth myth in the founding myth is related to progenitor transmission, I interpreted Aryeong as a progenitor of a powerhouse that played significant roles during foundation of Silla.
The earlier studies understood Alyeong in relation with the Kim clan whose progenitor is Alji(閼智). However this research suggests the possibility of her relation with the group of the Park(朴) clan who monopolized the throne in early Silla. And also I examined that the Park clan was closely connected with Goheochon which was one of the six villages in founding myth of Silla and was the substance of Saroguk, the leading chiefdom in Gyeongju area before the power leaded by Hyeokgeose was gathering strength.
This paper will argue that Areong was the progenitor of Saroguk, but since Saroguk and other little chiefdoms were integrated and developed to ancient kingdom, in the founding myth of Silla, Hyeokgeose who represents progenitor transmission of each tribe was portrayed as the founding king of Silla and Aryeong who was the progenitor of Saroguk as his queen.
