The objectives of this paper are to investigate the trend of population change of wintering cranes and distribution pattern in the Cheorwon, Korea. Data collected by our team since 2000 and previous reference data of others were employed. The size of wintering population of cranes has been increasing steadily in the area. Red-crowned Crane’s population had reached to 800 in the latter half of 2000's, and White-naped cranes about 1,500 that the individual stays over the winter continuously. The crane’s distribution was 7.8km² at 1980's but it was magnified steadily and 10 doubling quantity it was magnified with 76.7km². The White-naped Crane increasing tendency of latter half of 2000's appeared with the rapidly. Juvenile ratio of the Red-crowned Crane was stable with average 20.2±2.6% and the average juvenile ratio of the White-naped Crane was 17.4±2.4% and this changes was more high. Both crane species were not shown correlation between population increasing and juvenile ratio. Total wintering habitats area of cranes have been increased continuously until 2010. Density of the Red-crowned Crane have been maintained about 10 individuals/km² after 1990s, but density of the White-naped Crane have been increased 20 individuals/km² until recently year. Increasing tendency of the White-naped Cranes has been shown rapid increasing. Decreasing of the snow fall and cover depth and warm winter temperature were suggested as causes of rapid increasing of wintering population of White-naped Cranes.
