This study examines the meaning of multiliteracy education and methods of practicing multiliteracies in music education. The study includes a review of the literature to verify the appropriateness of multiliteracy education in music and presents actual teaching-learning models and class types. The aim of the classes that were developed is to have students acquire basic and relevant knowledge about music and become equipped with core competency and an understanding of multiliteracy. The classes were designed so that students recognize the environmental problems that are happening around them and participate in solving these by promoting music. The study reaches the following conclusions. First, for music literacy that involves the learners’ abilities to comprehend music, multiliteracy can be used to emphasize the process of creating meaning and having creative experiences. Second, multiliteracy should be recognized as a new form of text that uses multiple communication skills. When designing classes, the concerns, goals, and intentions of the learners to express something should be taken into account, and attention should be paid to diverse media and the different methods used by these media. Third, when applying multiliteracy to music education, knowledge about the media themselves, the consumers, and the producers should be integrated. Although this study is merely theoretical, it is meaningful because it presents a direction for multiliteracy education that is suitable for the digital era. The researcher anticipates that future multifaceted research will be undertaken to examine changes in the methods of communication in music that result from the development of technology and media, with the recognition that learners’ comprehension and their use of diverse literacy, including music, may enhance their learning.
