This paper analyzes why and how the EU has linked global trade with its Sustainable Development Goals. This paper compares bilateral free trade agreements (FTAs) between EU-Korea, EU-Canada and EU-Vietnam. This paper found that the EU's attempt to strengthen its role as a ruler of global norms in global trade since 2006 and to extend its values and norms to universal values was a background in strengthening the link between free trade agreements and sustainable development goals.
