Chung-Cheong region has been playing an important part in the Korean elections since the democratization. After playing a role of casting voter under the structure of regional confrontation between Young-Nam and Ho-Nam, it has begun to play a role of barometer more recently, for the nation-wide election results. It implies that Chung-Cheong voters are quite representative of the whole electorate, thus contributing to the democratic representativeness of the Korean electoral politics. This representativeness is a result of Chung-Cheong voters’demographic and cultural characteristics being combined by Chung-Cheong regionalism’s flexible and variable nature. This study is an attempt to empirically examine how well Chung-Cheong voters represent the whole electorate. In so doing, the study utilizes both election results data, and survey data.
