In metropolitan city where space for garden is extremely scarce, interest in the use of unused space is increasing to secure space for gardens near living areas. This Study tried to find out the possibility of using the street unused space as a garden.
In the study, the four street gardens where reflecting recent garden trends were selected, then planted plants were investigated. Planting combination analysis was conducted based on the four visual elements of plants, such as color, form, texture, and height. In the study sites, it was found that herbaceous plants were planted in the highest proportion, and most of woody plants were short shrubs. In addition, as reflecting the natural planting style that represents the recent garden trends, a complex planting combination was used, such as making mass planting by mixing grass, and emphasizing planting using various flower types. It was found that the use of color has changed from the style that mainly used green and add the strong color as a point, to the style that create a calm atmosphere using white, purple, or light pink. The planting combination type has changed from the using of woody plants to herbaceous plants, and a planting combination using grass with a fine texture has emerged. This shows the changing of trend form a planting combination that only considered color to a more complex planting combination that considers both color, shape and texture.
