본 연구는 제20대 대통령 선거에서 젠더 균열이 20대 안에서 어떻게 정치적 균열로 진화할 수 있었으며, 최종 투표 선택에선 얼마나 유의미한 영향을 미쳤는지 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 남성 중심적으로 구조화되어 있던 온라인 하위문화에 대한 반작용으로서 2015년 청년 여성의 페미니즘 운동이 온라인 공간을 중심으로 부흥하였고, 이에 대한 반격으로서 청년 남성의 백래시가 이어졌다. 페미니즘을 둘러싸고 20대 내부에서 남녀 간 첨예하게 대립하던 갈등은 제20대 대선에서 정당과 정치인의 동원 전략과 맞물리면서 정치적 균열로 진화하였다. 분석 결과, 이념을 비롯한 여러 정치적 태도에서 모두 유의미한 성차가 나타났고 투표 선택에서도 20대는 성별에 따라 대선 후보를 지지할 확률이 상이하게 나타났다.
This article aims to examine the social origin of gender cleavage within the youth generation in the context of Korean politics, and to explore the process of gender issue evolving into the political cleavage through the 20th Korean presidential election, and how the cleavage finally affected the young voters' behavior.
The social origin of the gender cleavage within the Korean youth generation stems from the community activities in cyberspace. As a reaction to the male-centered structured online subculture, the young feminist movement occurred on the online around 2015 and the backlash of young men followed as a counterattack.
The gender conflict, which has been sharply opposed within the youth generation in recent years, has evolved into a political cleavage in the 20th Korean presidential election, linked to the mobilization strategy of political parties and candidates. As a result of examination through the survey data of the 20th presidential election, it was found that within the youth generation, various political attitudes, including political ideology, were all significantly different depending on gender. In addition, the probability of supporting candidate Yoon was significantly different depending on gender within the young generation.
