The Syrian Civil War has been one of the most devastating wars in the post-Cold War era. However, the Syrian government forces, which received military support from Russia, have recovered most of their territory, and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, who has succeeded in his fourth term, has effectively paved the way for long-term rule by solidifying the hereditary system. In this regard, this research attempts to explain why the Assad regime was able to survive. In order to demonstrate the hypothesis of this study, the Russian intervention has contributed most to the survival of the Syrian regime, this paper collected 40 articles titled ‘Survival of the Assad Regime’ from Al-Jazeera and Google News. Both frequency analysis of (proper) nouns and adjectives in the 40 articles and co-occurrence of words analysis was conducted through KH Coder program.
