This study aimed to develop and validate the YouTube Over-dependence Scale(YOS) for university students. Primarily, the literature reviews and open survey on 99 university students were made with two content validation processes, which confirmed 92 preliminary survey questions. Then, item quality, normality distribution and exploratory factor analysis(EFA) of data(N=293), obtained from preliminary survey, confirmed 29 questions of six sub-scales. The data from main survey(N=468) went through EFA and confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) which ended up with deleting seven items additionally, so the final YOS was concluded with 22 questions of six sub-scales. Consequently, convergent validity and discriminant validity were examined through correlation with Smartphone Addiction Proneness Scale and result analysis of CFA, concurrent validity through correlations with K-BDI-2 and Self-control Scale and lastly, cross validity by checking the model fit of additional 245 samples. Finally, the YOS, with 6 factors consisting of ‘salience’, ‘self-control failure’, ‘daily-life disturbance’, ‘negative emotion avoidance’, ‘relationship orientation’, and ‘withdrawal’, the scale of 22 items was confirmed. The internal consistency(Cronbach’s a) of the final scale was found to be at a good level of .946. The Implications and limitations of this study and suggestions for future research were presented.
