Purpose: This study aims to improve airport metal detection performance and clarify safety requirements, introducing a new method for electromagnetic wave measurement.
Methods: Performance certification requirements were compared with Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport's guidelines. Unified standards and a testing procedure were derived based on analysis of electromagnetic wave regulations and prior magnetic field impact studies.
Results: The proposed criteria were validated through a safety assessment of local metal detection equipment. The compatibility of these criteria with various airport security devices was confirmed based on electromagnetic wave measurements.
Conclusion: The study presents advanced standards for metal detection performance and electromagnetic wave measurement relevant to future technologies. By leveraging the 2019 performance certification system, an increase in domestic competitiveness and market expansion due to technological independence is anticipated.
