This study classified Correctional officers (CO) into latent groups based on their mental health levels. Additionally, protective and risk factors influencing each latent profile were identified and the differences in work engagement and suicidal ideation were examined. Using data from 4,615 CO, a latent profile analysis was conducted, resulting in five latent profiles: Healthy Group, Adaptable Group, Externalizing Tendency Group, Potential Risk Group (Internalizing Tendency), and High-Risk Group. As protective factor levels decreased and risk factor levels increased, the probabilities of belonging to Adaptable Group, Externalizing Tendency Group, Potential Risk Group, and High-Risk Group increased compared to belonging to Healthy Group. Moreover, as CO moved from Healthy Group to the High-Risk Group, their work engagement decreased, but the risk of suicide increased. By deeply understanding the characteristics of mental health of CO, prevention and intervention methods for promoting the mental well-being of CO were extensively discussed.
