This study was conducted to develop a retirement adjustment scale to measure the level of retirement adjustment of retirees and to verify their reliability and validity. To this end, literature research and existing development scale review were conducted, and provisional components of retirement adjustment were established, focusing on a resource-based dynamic model known as a theory that can explain various aspects of retirement adjustment. Next, 155 initial items were constructed by conducting open-ended survey and in-depth interviews, and 46 final preliminary items were confirmed by conducting expert content validity verification twice. For scale development, a survey was conducted on 272 retirees aged 50 or older, and exploratory factor analysis was conducted based on the collected data. As a result, a six-factor structure was derived consisting physical adjustment, financial adjustment, social adjustment, emotional adjustment, motivational adjustment, and family relationship adjustment. In order to validate the scale, data from 427 retirees were collected and a confirmatory factor analysis was conducted. As a result, the suitability of the six-factor structure was confirmed, and a scale of 27 items of the final six factors was developed. Criterion-related validity was secured through correlation analysis with life satisfaction, quality of life for the elderly, and retirement stress scale. The overall reliability coefficient of the developed scale was .954 and the reliability of the sub-factors was in the range of .734-.941. Finally, the significance and limitations of this study and suggestions for follow-up research were presented.
