본 논문은 강유전성, 세라믹, 구동기, 고체물리, 수학적 모델 방법론 등 다양한 지식에 대한 결합을 통해 실제 이용되는 압전 구동기를 위한 선형, 비선형 수학적 모델링 방법을 다루었다. 먼저 구동기에서 주로 이용되는 변수인 힘과 전압으로 구성된 다양한 형태의 선형 압전 구성방정식을 유도한다. 이러한 선형 압전 구성방정식은 기존의 압전 결정을 위해 유도된 것으로써, 압전 세라믹의 경우 외부 필드가 매우 낮을 때 적용될 수 있는 구성방정식이다. 이러한 구성방정식은 현재 초소형 구조물 등에 그대로 이용되고 있으며 특히 최적 설계를 위한 필수 요소이다. 그러나 이러한 선형 구성방정식은 높은 필드에서 이용되는 압전 세라믹에 적용하는 데 큰 문제점을 지니고 있다. 즉 높은 필드에서는 세라믹 특성에 의해 히스테리시스와 같은 비선형성이 두드러지게 나타나기 때문에 이러한 비선형성을 고려해야만 한다. 이러한 비선형성을 고려한 모델 중에서, 본 연구에서는 입력과 출력 간의 관계를 수학적으로 모델링하는 현상학적 방법을 채택하였다. 현상학적 방법은 물리적인 변수로 구성되고 실험식을 토대로 모델링 되기 때문에 실험에 잘 맞는 장점을 지리고 있다. 따라서 실제 구동기의 비선형성을 최소화하는데 이용되기에 적합한 접근 방법으로 알려져 왔다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 현상학적 방법 중 기존에 널리 알려져 있었던 레일리 모델과 T(x) 모델에 중점적으로 분석하였다. 두 모델 모두 초기에는 강자성 물질을 위해 유도되었으나 압전 세라믹에도 그 적용이 가능하다고 알려져 있다. 그러나 지금까지 대부분 물질의 특성을 규명하는데 이용되었지만 실제 구동기에 적용된 사례는 없다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 두 모델의 구동기 적용 가능성을 타진하였다. 먼저 다양한 전기 기계 결합 실험을 통해 레일리 모델의 경우는 필드가 낮을 때 적용가능하고 T(x) 모델은 필드가 매우 클 때 적용가능 함을 확인하였다. 그러나 두 모델 모두 실제 초정밀 구동기로 주로 이용되는 압전 스택 구동기에 적용하는 데 한계를 지님을 확인하였다. 특히 양의 영역을 이용하는 Unipolar drive에서는 레일리 모델의 변형 및 확장형이 필요로 하였으며 이를 통해 압전 히스테리시스를 충분히 보상할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 이러한 확장형 레일리 모델은 압전구동기의 히스테리시스 커브에서 증가할 때와 감소할 때의 그래프 기울기가 다르고 최대 필드 크기에 따른 감소 그래프 기울기는 일치한다는 아이디어를 이용하여 유도되었다. 이러한 확장형 레일리 모델은 최대 크기의 그래프를 이용하여 레일리 변수 및 압전 상수를 구하게 되면 최대 필드 이하의 모든 영역에서 히스테리시스 커브를 예측할 수 있는 장점을 지니고 있다. 본 모델의 역함수를 이용하여 현재 스캐너에서 많은 문제를 야기하고 있는 히스테리시스 문제를 보상하는데 이용할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 확장형 레일 모델의 역모델을 이용하여 약 15% 정도의 변위오차를 발생시키는 히스테리시스를 약 5% 이내로 최소화시킬 수 있음을 확인하였다.
