This paper aims at showingthe comparison and analysis between gasoline buses and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, and understanding how much CNG buses can attribute to air quality improvement.
Here are three study methodologies of this study. First, this research is based on the urban CNG busses which have come into wide use by December 31, 2006. As the methods for measurement analysis, air pollution sources were defined using the emissions during that period, and the improvement effects of air pollution sources were analyzed. The amount used in the future of CNG by December 31, 2010 was estimated and used to analyze air pollution improvement, comparing to the emission of the presumed gasoline amount for the same period.
Second, mobile pollution sources on the roadswere analyzed according to the emission of air pollution sources, investigated by National Institute of Environmental Research. As the methods for analysis, emission of air pollution sources from 2005 to 2010 was estimated, based on the increase in 2004, and the whole urban buses of Daegu city among mobile air pollution sources and the limit of mobile air pollution sources on the roads were analyzed.
Third, emission of each pollution source in Daegu city was analyzed, according to the amount of emissioninvestigated by National Institute of Environmental Research. As the methods for analysis, emission of air pollution source from 2005 to 2010 was estimated, based on the increase in 2004.
The results of analysis are as below. First, Sox and PM completely lower the emission of pollution sources, when analyzing air pollution sources of urban buses. In addition, NOx and Co have70% of improvement in lowering emission of air pollution source. HC has 60% of improvement effect. In conclusion, the improvement in air pollution has been made in following order: SOx, PM, NOx, CO, HC.
Second, as a result of the measurement analyzing the whole urban buses of Daegu city among mobile air pollution sources on the roads, PM has about 65%, Sox has about 50%, NOx has about 30%, CO has about 20%, and HC has about 10% of improvement effect in lowering air pollution sources. In conclusion, the improvement in air pollution has been made in following order: SOx, PM, NOx, CO, HC.
Third, as a result of the measurement analyzing the mobile air pollution sources on the roads, Sox has about 10%, PM has about 6%, NOx has about 5%, and HC has about 1% of improvement effect in lowering air pollution sources. In conclusion, the improvement in air pollution has been madein following order: SOx, PM, NOx, CO, HC.
Forth, as a result of the measurement analyzing the whole air pollution sources in Daegu, Sox, PM, and NOx have about 3 to 6%, CO has about 0.6%, and HC has about 0.1% of improvement effect in lowering air pollution sources.
