The purpose of this study was to investigate the relations between parent's fostering attitudes and self-esteem in adolescent who disappeared from home and who did not disappeared from home.
Subjects of this study were 67 adolescent who disappeared from home and resided in Swimteo, 74 high school students who disappeared from home and 84 high school students who did not disappeared from home.
The instruments used were parent' fostering attitudes test and self-esteem test. parent' fostering attitudes were composed of eight variables such as superintendence, reasonable explanation, inconsistence, excess expectation, excess interference, cruel treatment, leaving alone and love. Self-esteem were composed of four variables such as general self, social self, home self, and school self.
Main findings of the study were as follows:
First, In case of runaway students residing in Swimteo, the reasonable explanation out of parent's nurture attitude has a positive correlation with school ego out of self esteem. In addition, in case of runaway student, inconsistency has a significant negative correlation with general ego of general school student. In case of runaway student, cruel treatment has a significant negative correlation with general ego out of self esteem and leaving alone has a negative correlation with general ego.
Second, Among parent's nurture attitude, excess expectation and excess interference showed significant difference in home ego and cruel treatment showed that in general ego between juvenile groups. Among parent's nurture attitude, superintendence showed significant difference in general ego with excess interference in social ego and cruel treatment in general ago between juvenile groups. Excess interference showed significant difference in social ego and leaving alone showed that in general ego between juvenile groups
Third, In case of school runaway students, the significant factor of general ego is cruel treatment and that of home ego is inconsistency. In case of general students, the significant factor of general ego is inconsistency and that of social ego is excess interference.
