Abstract 171

초록보기

In the early 1900s, human beings flew in an airplane for the first time. People might have been very amazed to see a machine of great size flying in the sky. Today, however, nobody is amazed at a flying air plane. Instead, we are interested in cutting edge communication and medical technology, from which we benefit. The advanced technology brings us much more convenience. However, I wonder whether this is truly the life we all want.

Most of us long for old days while managing to adapt to new culture and technology. Sometimes modern life is confusing and strange to us. What we cherish and want to remember is disappearing so fast that we sometimes want to stop the rapid change in our life. In fact, it is frustrating that some are lost and alienated through this change. Too many things have been sacrificed for the economic benefit of the world. Although human beings have a free will, they have been forced to lose human nature. We cannot stop the change and avoid losing something important. Nonetheless, there will be a better way.

〈The call〉 and 〈Yann〉 were written based on such belief. Although the two books tell different stories, they both describe human beings who walk to the future feeling curiosity and fear for the present life. The materials of the two books are a cell-phone and an android, which represent modern civilization. However, the two books are not a merely simple science fiction. The author of the two books focuses on weak and humble human beings. How much can we consider such human beings if we only pursue economic benefit and convenience in the future?

We are still pursuing progress and advancement. Although we don't know what the future holds, we all have our own future we dream of. In fact, these two books cannot clearly give an answer for a better future. However, I hope the two books can provide us with an opportunity to look back on our lives to examine whether we are going to the future we really want.
