This century has seen rapid development in smartphones and smartphones have already been an essential part of modern life. However, the powerfulness of smartphones and the precious information they possess have also attracted an increasing number of malicious activities. In the dissertation, the architectures and the security features of different smartphone operating systems are compared, and the weakness of the security features are discussed. In addition, existing security enhancement for smartphone operating systems are summarized and analyzed. Furthermore, based on the insights of smartphone security from comparison and analysis, refinement for a joint system of privileges and inter-application communication for smartphones is proposed in order to provide better security.
