Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade는 세포 밖 신호로부터 세포내 target molecule까지의 과정이 이루어 지도록 돕는 역할을 하며 다른 protein과의 상호작용을 통하여 세포, 조직과 기관내의 다양한 생리적인 기능이 이루어 지도록 한다. 그러나 아직까지 식물의 다양한 생리적 MAPK 상호작용 인자에 대한 연구는 많이 알려져 있지 않다. 따라서 모델식물인 Oryzae sativa L.을 이용하여 yeast two-hybrid system과 co-immunoprecipitation, pull down, bimolecular fluorescence complemetation, subcellular localization, kinase assay의 실험을 통해 식물 MAPK와 상호작용하는 단백질의 체계적 지도작성을 하였다. 위의 실험을 통하여 벼 MAPKs의 80개의 각각의 다른 상호작용 pair를 확인하였고, (74개의 다른 상호작용 단백질 동정) MAPK 상호작용 단백질의 단백질 수준의 network을 밝혔다. 상호작용 인자를 확인한 결과, 4개의 membrane-associated protein과 7개의 MAP2Ks, 4개의 MAPKs를 확인하였고, 18개의 전사조절 인자를 포함한 59개의 다른 단백질 또한 확인할 수 있었다. 여러 상호작용 단백질은 여러 실험(in vivo and in vitro)과 조사를 통하여 그 역할을 증명할 수 있었다. 위 연구결과에서 강조될 점은 벼 MAPKs 중에서 각각의 다른 41개의 다른 단백질(작성된 MAPK 의 상호작용 network 내 51.2% 차지) 과 상호작용을 하는 tobacco SIPK와 Arabidopsis AtMPK6와 ortholog인 OsMPK1의 중요성이다. 덧붙여서, 상호작용 단백질의 34개의 기능적 category내 gene ontology (GO) classification에 따르면 MAPKs는 다양한 생리적인 기능을 한다고 제시된다. 따라서 확인한 결과들은 MAPK와 상호작용하는 단백질 network에 대한 이해를 증진시킬 수 있고 벼 MAPK 상호작용 인자의 지도작성 또한 중요 자료로 제공 가능하다는 점에서 중요하다고 볼 수 있다.
