LCD를 구성하는 Back Light Unit 에서 Prism film나 Micro Lens film의 기재물질인 PET film과 그 층을 구성하는 UV resin과의 접착력을 확보시키는 수용성 프라이머를 제조하기 위하여, 아크릴계 모노머 MMA(methyl methacrylate), EA(ethyl acrylate), AN(acrylonitrile), MA (methacryl amide)를 사용하여 50~70 ℃ 에서 12시간 동안 유화중합으로 코폴리머 라텍스를 제조하였다. MMA/EA/AN/MA 코폴리머를 구성하는 MMA와 EA의 몰비는 코폴리머의 특성에 영향을 주는 요인 중 하나이다. 코폴리머 라텍스와 폴리에스터, 경화제인 멜라민, 분산제인 TritonX-705를 물에 섞어 프라이머 조액을 만들었으며, 이를 PET에 코팅하고 UV레진을 도포한 후, 상온과 끓는 물에서 접착력을 측정하였다. 이 때, 접착력 측정의 표준은 ASTM ASTM-D3359 02, 08에 따랐고, 관능기가 다른 6가지의 UV레진을 사용하였다.
연구 결과는 다음으로 요약된다. (1) PEST 부재의 경우, 프라이머를 구성하는 copolymer latex 특성(분자량과 입자 크기 등)과 경화제 melamine 의 농도가 접착력에 영향을 미치지 않았다. (2) 최적의 아크릴계 코폴리머의 모노머 구성비는 C와 D 그룹, 즉 MMA/EA비가 각각 6.3/2.7과 7.2/1.8이고 이들의 Tg가 각각 54 ℃와 69 ℃이었다. (3) 폴리에스터가 들어가지 않은 프라이머 조액에서는 접착력이 나타나지 않았다. 또한, 프라이머 조액에서 폴리에스터의 양은 매우 중요한데, 아크릴계 코폴리머 라텍스와 폴리에스터비가 각각 20/40, 20/50, 또는 40/40에서 최적의 접착력을 나타냈내어, 적어도 폴리에스터양이 아크릴계 코폴리머양과 같거나 많아야만 우수한 접착력을 보였다. (4) UV레진의 관능기는 우수한 접착력을 나타내는 중요 요소 중 하나로 나타났는데, 아크릴계 우레탄의 UV레진이 에폭시계 UV레진보다 우수한 접착력을 나타내었다. (5) 전반적으로, 프라이머 조액에 함유된 폴리에스테르와 기재인 UV레진과의 적절한 조합은 우수한 접착력을 가져다 주는 가장 중요한 인자로 평가된다. 즉, 폴리에스터의 -SO₃Na 기나 –OH와 –COOH 기와 아크릴계 우레탄이 접착력을 향상시키는 관능기로 판단된다. 그러므로 최적의 접착력을 가져다 주는 조합은 20/40_C5/A120, 20/50_C5/A120, 40/40_D5/Z561와 UV레진 LK-C18, RS-4162, RS-4130와 RS-1450(T-2)이며, 이때 사용된 재료는 10% 멜라민, 2% TritonX-705와 DDI water이었다.
