초록보기

This thesis is a study about music used in the advertisement having a purpose on helping students to have an effective appreciation class by providing a instruction-learning lesson plan for music appreciation class applying the advertisement music.

As the music curriculum has been changed, the contents and method of music class that demands at school need to be continuously studied and developed. The contents system of music from the revised 2009 curriculum presents the expression, appreciation, and actualization area. Among them, the appreciation learning is one of the most preferred activities, from which the students can easily get access to music without particular techniques. Also it is the substantial musical activity which can foster musical sensitivity and understanding to adolescence students.

The contents of the class are as follows: first, to understand the structure and contents of the advertisement after watching the advertisement which contains classical music; second, to understand the classical music and its composer in the historical, social, and cultural context; third, to let students draw creative opinions about role and value of music in the advertisement considering the connection between music and advertisement; and finally, to let them recognize the value and importance of music in life.

After looking into the advertisement music, adolescence and the theories of appreciation instruction from several scholars through critical apparatus, this thesis focused on researching the role and value of music considering the link between music and advertisement through studying music which were used in the advertisement. The selected subject music which were applied in the advertisements are 'Coronation Anthems' by Georg Friedrich Händel, 'the 9th symphony' by Ludwig van Beethoven, 'Flight of the Bumblebee' by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, 'Claire de lune' by Claude Debussy, and ' Gymnopedies' by Eric Satie. And the instruction-learning lesson plan about this contents has been written out to apply to the actual music class at school.

After the completion of the lesson plan, I could find out whether the lesson plan is practicable in the music class or not through carrying out interviews from 10 teachers who have more than five years of teaching experience. And the advantages and disadvantages of the lesson plan was also looked into.

The result of this research is as follows:

First, this lesson plan is suitable to elicit curiosity and interest from students by applying music used in the advertisement. Second, the students can respect others people's opinions and improve their ability to carry out the cooperative work by the process of producing creative opinions through group activities. Third, it is an appropriate lesson plan to instruct the lesson balanced with the theoretical contents of musical history through 5 hours of music appreciation class. However, there was another opinion that some of the presented subject music was quite difficult for the first grade students in the middle school. In order to make up for this weak point, the teachers should apply the lesson plan properly after going through a flexible reconstruction according to the characteristics of students.
